Lilo Goes To Jail

lindsay-lohan-refuses-plea-bargain-1.jpg

District Attorney Danette Meyers offered Lindsay Lohan a plea deal that included 6 months in jail, which is better than the 1 to 3 years Lindsay could be sentenced to for a felony grand theft conviction.
Lindsay won’t accept the plea deal because she believes she didn’t do anything wrong, which is one reason the judge will want a psychological evaluation of Lindsay before sentencing.
At the March 10 hearing Lindsay can again refuse the plea deal, and demand a trial, but at the same hearing the judge will also be deciding if Lindsay violated her current probation on her double DUI convictions. If the judge believes 51% that Lindsay violated her probation he will order Lindsay to be incarcerated in jail until she goes on trial.

Meyers knows she has Lindsay in a checkmate position, but Lindsay still believes she can get away with anything, because females are usually not required to take responsibility for anything. At this point however, Lindsay has been breaking the law so often the courts can no longer allow her to go free.
The question now is whether Meyers will still be offering only 6 months of jail time, or if Lindsay’s attorney will need to plead guilty or no contest while hoping that doing so will provide Lindsay with some mercy in sentencing from the court.
At this point, the court appears to realize they’ve got themselves a career criminal on their hands, so mercy seems less likely. The only thing that could save Lindsay is her celebrity status, and that would happen in jail because of overcrowding, but is unlikely at the prison level.
Dina Lohan can keep blaming the media, or Michael Lohan, for Lindsay’s legal problems, but like Lindsay, Dina will eventually realize she is part of the problem. The best thing Dina could do for Lindsay would be to hire a real manager, and just be Lindsay’s mother offering support, but not delusional excuses.

Haley Joel Osment

Actor Haley Joel Osment was charged with drunk driving and marijuana possession after he crashed his 1996 Saturn station wagon while returning home from a Los Angeles concert in July 2006. The 18-year-old Osment, who starred as the boy who saw dead people in 'The Sixth Sense,' suffered minor injuries in the accident and was briefly hospitalized. Osment, who posed for a mug shot snapped by an L.A. sheriff's deputy, was released from custody after posting a $15,000 bond.

Paul Reubens

Paul Reubens (aka Pee-wee Herman) turned himself in to Los Angeles police in November 2002 after being charged with misdemeanor possession of kiddie porn. It was not the first run-in with the law for the 50-year-old actor, who was arrested by Florida cops in July 1991 and charged with indecent exposure. Pee-wee, who was nabbed at an adult movie house, later pleaded no contest to the charge. He was fined, had to pay court costs, and ordered to produce an anti-drug public service announcement.

City considers putting DUI mug shots on Facebook
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Police in a city ranked top in the state for alcohol-related traffic fatalities might soon be trying a new tactic to keep drunken drivers off the road: Electronic shaming on Facebook.

In a contentious move that has raised the hackles of privacy advocates and been met with resistance from a police department fearful of alienating residents, a councilman in Huntington Beach wants police to begin posting the mug shots of everyone who is arrested more than once for driving while under the influence.

"If it takes shaming people to save lives, I am willing to do it," said Devin Dwyer, the councilman behind the proposal. "I'm hoping it prevents others from getting behind the wheel and getting inebriated."

Dwyer initially wanted the police department to post on Facebook photographs of everyone arrested for DUI in the bar-laden beach town just south of Los Angeles. He has watered down his proposal - now only repeat offenders would be featured on the virtual wall of shame - in hopes of winning support from the rest of the seven-member council, which is set to vote on the issue Tuesday.

Huntington Beach, a city of about 200,000 famed for its Surf City alias, an off-leash dog beach and a downtown packed with bars, is ranked top out of 56 California cities of similar size for the number of alcohol-related traffic fatalities. In 2009, 195 people were killed or injured.

Drunken driving laws are aggressively enforced, and in 2009, there were 1,687 DUI arrests.

"There is a saying: Come to Huntington Beach on vacation, leave on probation," said attorney Randall Bertz, who specializes in DUI cases.

Bertz, a former police officer who has been defending such cases for 23 years, said uploading DUI suspects' photos onto Facebook violates their right to privacy and would likely not be a deterrent to habitual drunken drivers.

"It will have a negative impact on relations with the community, the police department and city officials," he said. "What's next, will they have drunk drivers walk around with sandwich boards? Will it be public flogging?"

For its part, the Huntington Beach police department is pushing back against Dwyer's proposal. Police spokesman Lt. Russell Reinhart said that since launching its Facebook page in November, officers have found it to be a valuable way of getting information to the public and soliciting tips on tough cases.

A couple of DUI suspect mug shots have been posted, but they were from egregious cases where police thought the public could be at immediate risk from the suspect. Reinhart fears Facebook fans could be turned off by the routine public shaming of all repeat DUI offenders.

"We see no value in doing that," he said. "Law enforcement is not about public shaming."

Dwyer said he has received wide support from residents for his proposal, including from a woman whose husband and three children were killed in an alcohol-related crash. He decided to push his plan forward after the local newspaper had a change in editorial policy and ceased publishing arrest logs.

Connie Boardman, a Huntington Beach councilwoman who opposes Dwyer's idea, said posting the photos would have little effect on behavior.

"People who habitually drink and drive are alcoholics and are not going to be shamed by this," she said. "But their parents and their spouses would be mortified."

She added that children might be bullied if peers see their parents on a Facebook wall of shame.

"That is going to result in tremendous humiliation for a kid who has no hope of controlling his parent's behavior," she said.

Other police departments have already tried putting up a rogue's gallery of DUI arrestees, though some of these attempts have been short lived.

In Evesham Township, N.J., the 75-officer police force maintains an active Facebook page and initially posted every DUI arrest mug shot. Within four months, the county prosecutor told police to stop the practice because it was unclear whether it was allowed under rules about what information police can release.

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE-DELIVERY

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE-DELIVERY

Patrick M. Green is being held in the Ada County Jail on charges of delivery of methamphetamine and marijuana and unlawful possession of an explosive device after Boise police searched his Central Bench home Tuesday night for an unrelated case.
Boise police had been investigating reports of possible drug sales at Green’s home in the 4800 block of Blaser Circle - located next to Cassia Park in the Orchard/Roosevelt streets neighborhood - prior to Tuesday but were there around 11 p.m. to help Ada County Sheriff’s deputies look for another woman, Candace Turner, who was wanted for a felony probation violation.
Boise police officials say the 39-year-old Green allowed officers in his house to look for Turner, which is when police found about one gram of methamphetamine, 35 grams of marijuana, packaging materials and other drug paraphernalia in different rooms inside.
Police also found a plastic bottle, which appeared to be filled with gunpowder with a fuse attached into the cap. The Boise police bomb squad eventually removed the homemade bomb from the home and disposed of it at a different location, according to reports.
Police officials say they found no evidence the gun powder filled bottle was part of any threat or specific plan but did not offer a theory as to why it was in the home.
Officers charged Green with the more serious charge of drug delivery instead of possession based on finding packaging materials and other undisclosed evidence that drugs were being sold at the home, police officials said Wednesday.
Green will make his initial court appearance later Wednesday.
